According to the Blairsville
Chamber of Commerce, Union County is made up of 204,736 acres,
with 97,843 acres within the Chattahoochee National Forest. Lake
Nottely, which is managed by the Tennessee
Valley Water Authority, is a 4,180 acre body of water with a
shoreline of 106 miles. It goes on to say that the elevation in
Union County ranges from 1,600 - 4,784 feet with Blairsville's elevation
being 1,900 feet. The Blairsville Chamber of Commerce states that
the average high temperature is in July; 84F and the average low
temperature is in January; 25F. The annual rainfall is 65 inches
and the average snowfall is 3 inches.
According to its web site, Meeks
Park is located approximately 1 mile west of Blairsville and
is open to the public. Meeks Park was established in 1991 and consists
of 4 baseball fields, 3 softball fields and 4 batting cages. Meeks
Park also includes a T-ball field and a utility field which can
be used for a variety of activities. Meeks Park also provides picnic
tables, 4 covered pavilions, restrooms and a children's play area.
During the summer months the pool is open to the public and swimming
classes are available. Meeks Park also offers a walking trail that

While in Blairsville you may also like to visit
Vogel
State Park. According to the Georgia State Park web site, Vogel
State Park is one of the oldest and most popular State parks in
Georgia. Vogel State Park is located at the base of Blood Mountain
in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The Georgia State Park web
site also states that Vogel State Park is made up of 233 acres with
103 tent, trailer and RV campsites. There are 18 walk-in campsites
and 35 cottages. Vogel State Park also offers a 20 acres lake with
a swimming beach. Vogel State Park also has a general store, 4 picnic
shelters and a group shelter. There is a 17 mile hiking and backpacking
trail, seasonal petal boat rental and miniature golf. Please visit

The figures from the USDA Forest Service web site
state that Brasstown
Bald, rising 4,784 feet above sea level, is Georgia's highest
mountain. On a clear day the 360 degree view from atop Brasstown
Bald allows you to see Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South
Carolina. Also, according to the site, there is a steep 1/2 mile
trail that leads from the parking lot to the visitor information
center on the Bald. For those that don't want to walk, there is
a shuttle bus from the parking area to the Visitor information Center
for a fee. Brasstown Bald is open daily from Memorial Day through
October and on weekends in the early spring and late fall depending
